Humboldt Bay Power Plant

Humboldt County, California.

IVS was selected to provide the ventilation systems for the new Humboldt Bay Power Plant project. PG&E’s Humboldt Bay Power Plant (HBPP) is located just south of Eureka near the mouth of Humboldt Bay, in Humboldt County, California. Construction has begun on the HBGS that will provide cleaner and more reliable electricity to Humboldt County. The Generating Station will consist of 10 reciprocating engines (model 18V50DF, manufactured by Wärtsilä). With 163 MW total output, HBGS will be able to provide power to approximately 120,000 homes. HBGS will be 33 percent more efficient than the existing HBPP fossil fuel Units 1 and 2 with 83 percent fewer ozone precursors and 33 percent fewer CO2 emissions. It will use a closed-loop cooling system with negligible water usage, eliminating the need to use water from Humboldt Bay for once-through cooling. HBGS will normally run on natural gas with ultra-low sulfur diesel as its backup fuel.

Cook Inlet Natural Gas Storage Facility

Kenai Alaska

IVS was selected to provide all of the ventilation systems engineering and equipment for the new Cook Inlet Natural Gas Storage facility in Kenai Alaska. Cook Inlet Natural Gas Storage Alaska, a joint venture between Enstar’s parent company Semco Energy and MidAmerican Energy Holdings Co., has been working through the permitting process to create a natural gas storage facility in Kenai. The facility will take in injected gas into a storage reservoir when more natural gas is being produced than consumers are using, typically in the summer. When the demand for fuel is higher than production, typically in the winter, gas can be taken out of the reservoir and supplied to customers. The schedule calls for injection to begin during the summer of 2012.

Helco Keahole Power Plant Project

Hawaii

Industrial Ventilation Systems (“IVS”), has been contracted by Hawaii Electric Light Company, Inc. (“HELCO”) through United Steel Structures Inc. of Houston to provide engineering, materials fabrication-supply, commissioning and start-up services for the Industrial Ventilation Systems and associated controls for a combined cycle conversion project at HELCO’s Keahole, Hawaii power generation facility. The Keahole site is a primary source of power for the Big Island of Hawaii, servicing over 77,000 customers island-wide.
